The Women’s Studies Centre, Thiagarajar College, Madurai, in collaboration with the Singapen Special Task Force, organized an Awareness Programme on “Women’s Safety and Security: Awareness, Prevention and Protection” on 13 August 2026 at the Dr. Radha Thiagarajan Auditorium, in alignment with SDG 5 – Gender Equality.

Dr. R. Aruna, Director, Women’s Studies Centre, delivered the Welcome Address, followed by the Presidential Address by Dr. D. Pandiaraja, Principal, Thiagarajar College, who emphasized self-confidence, responsible decision-making, and courage among students.

The programme was attended by Ms. M. Dhanapackialakshmi, Sub-Inspector of Police, Ms. V. Thenmozhi, Head Constable, and Ms. R. Tamilarasi, Head Constable, representing the Singapen Special Task Force. Ms. M. Dhanapackialakshmi, Sub-Inspector of Police, delivered the awareness lecture, focusing on women’s safety, legal rights, prevention of child marriage, responsible use of mobile phones, healthy friendships, emergency support services, and financial independence. She introduced the 1091 and 181 Women’s Helplines and the Kaaval Uthavi App, encouraging students to make use of these resources during emergencies.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. K. Jeyanthi, Nodal Officer – Police Akka Scheme, Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, Thiagarajar College.
