Microbiology Department
About Department
The Department of Microbiology was initially launched as a part of the Department of Zoology in 1994 under the UGC vocationalization scheme with an undergraduate programme and was upgraded to a postgraduate programme in 1998. The department emerged as an independent entity in 2023. In alignment with the vision and mission of the college, the department promotes an integrated approach to contemporary science and technology. Since its inception, the faculty members have made significant contributions to modern biology through quality teaching, funded research projects, publications in reputed journals, and active participation in national and international conferences. The department is supported by a team of highly qualified, experienced, and research-oriented faculty who continuously mentor students for academic excellence, innovation, and ethical scientific practice.
Equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation facilities such as fermenters, PCR systems, lyophilizers, and sonicators, the department strives to foster strong scientific temperament and an interdisciplinary research culture among students. The staff of the department guide the students to receive projects from government funding agencies, internships, and summer research fellowships (INSA, JNCASR, IASST), and to achieve excellence in their chosen fields. The department also takes pride in its rich alumni network, successfully placed in academia, research institutions, healthcare industries, and governmental organizations. The department regularly organizes national-level conferences and workshops to empower students academically and professionally.
