About IPR Cell

The Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Cell of Thiagarajar College has been established to foster a culture of innovation, creativity and intellectual property awareness among faculty members, researchers and students. The Cell serves as a dedicated platform for facilitating the identification, protection, management and commercialization of intellectual property generated through academic and research activities. It provides guidance and support on patents, copyrights, trademarks, industrial designs and other forms of intellectual property, while promoting responsible and ethical practices in research and innovation. Through awareness programmes, capacity-building initiatives and expert guidance, the IPR Cell aims to encourage the translation of innovative ideas and research outcomes into valuable intellectual assets that contribute to academic advancement, societal development and technological innovation.

Types of Intellectual Property Rights

• Patent: Protects new and inventive products, processes or technological solutions developed through research and innovation.
  Examples: novel chemical compounds, analytical methods, laboratory devices, sensors, sustainable technologies and innovative processes.
• Copyright: Protects original literary, artistic, musical and creative expressions, including academic and digital content.
  Examples: books, research articles, teaching materials, photographs, paintings, music, videos, computer programmes and software.
• Trademark: Protects distinctive names, logos, symbols, words or other signs that identify and distinguish goods or services.
  Examples: institutional logos, research initiative names, programme names, product brands and service marks.
