About Department

The department takes pride for being one of the first courses that was offered in the Under Graduate stream when the Thiagarajar College was established in the year 1949. This department began to offer post graduate courses in 1959, and also became a Centre for Research in the year 2006. The department of Economics offers a contemporary course, well in tune with the academic requirements of current times. The teaching here aims not just at facilitating academic excellence, but also in ensuring that the learning takes place with the students being kept abreast of the socio-economic changes taking place around them. Therefore, seminars, guest lectures, field visits and extension activities are periodically organized with the view of ensuring that students receive cognitive and effective education. The department is well-equipped with e-infrastructure, knowledge systems, dedicated teaching faculty, as well as top-notch research- guiding faculty members. The department boasts of a faculty, all of whom hold doctorate degrees. The department also takes pride in the fact that it has produced 18 doctorate students so far.
