About Department

• The Department of Commerce has made giant strides in more than four decades since its establishment in 1985. The department offers B.Com.(Aided) programmes with a strong foundation in Commerce, Banking, Accounting, Finance, and Management.  The department has been recognized as a Research Centre of Commerce by Madurai Kamaraj University from 2016.  To bridge the gap between Academia and Industry requirements, the department has entered into six MoUs in collaboration with reputed Institutions such as the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICMAI), Zoho Corporation Pvt. Ltd. (Zoho Books), G-Tech Global Education Ltd. (SAP FICO), Tally Power Solution, Bangalore (Tally Prime 6.1 and filing of GST returns), Bajaj Finserv Pvt. Ltd. (CPBFI), and Heartfulness Institute, Madurai (Skill Development).  The department has been encouraging students to pursue professional courses concurrently with their degree programmes.  As a result, the department has produced more than 35 Cost Accountants, 25 Chartered Accountants, 3 Company Secretaries, and 2 ACCAs (Skill Level).  The alumni of the department are well placed in reputed Banking, Insurance, and Corporate Sectors at both National and International levels.  The department has consistently adhered to 5S practices, and the overall 5S Trophy has been held by the department since 2018.
