About Department

The Department established in 1957, currently offers B.Sc. (Aided), B.Sc. (Self-finance), M.Sc. (Aided), M.Sc. (Self-finance), M. Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. The Department bloomed into a full-fledged research Centre in 2004, actively involved in research and has produced over 50 Ph.D. scholars. The faculty members have received grants from many funding agencies including UGC, DRDO, DST-SERB, and TNSCST. There were four major research projects funded by DST to the tune of 1.7 crores. The faculty members have published more than 500 research articles in various national and international journals of High impact factor, in last 10 years. A state-of- art laboratory has been established in the Department with sophisticated instruments such as UV-Visible spectrometer, Spectro fluorimeter, CH-instrument, and Thermogravimetric analyzer. The department signed an MoU with IIT Madras in 2007 and National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) Taiwan in 2017, 2023 and 2024 and also Mingchi University of Technology (MUT) in 2022. Every year, our students pass in JAM, CAT, CSIR-JRF, and GATE exams and pursue their PhD in higher Academic Institutions like IISc, IIT, NIT, Central Universities, and CSIR Institutes. More than 35 students from our department have joined PhD and 5 of our M.Sc. students have completed their internship in NTUT and MUT Taiwan, 10 of them finished their postdoctoral research. The alumni of this Department are rendering their services to premier academic institutions and industries across the world.
